GRAND VINTAGE 2016 & GRAND VINTAGE 2016 ROSÉ
Moët & Chandon’s Cellar Master's personal interpretations of 2016, a year of turbulent weather full of twists and turns at the whim of nature. These unpredictable circumstances, typical of the region, were tempered through great care in the vineyards and masterful winemaking, resulting in two exceptional cuvées after six years in the cellars.
The year 2016
in Champagne
It was a year of unseasonable weather from the onset, beginning with a mild, wet winter followed by a cool spring during which unwelcome frost caused fruit loss. The climatic pendulum swayed when a dry summer and heatwave ensued, counterbalancing the excess humidity and allowing the remaining grapes to ripen beautifully.
Winter was humid but not sufficiently cold.
Spring was excessively rainy, breaking a 20-year record. Frosts arrived at the least opportune moment.
Summer brought troubles in the opposite direction with excessive dryness, delivering less than 40% of habitual rain.
Beginning with Meunier grapes expressing a bold fruitiness and tension this year, the final and overall yield was restrained yet extremely qualitative.
After the September harvest, Cellar Master Benoît Gouez looked to his broad palette of exceptional 2016 wines from throughout the region, as Moët & Chandon has access to the largest vineyard area in Champagne.

Grand Vintage 2016
Tender melt-in-the-mouth recipes such as slow-cooked game, succulent fish or fennel confit will complement this champagne and enable its profile to shine. Season with a touch of aniseed to enhance the white fruit and floral notes.
Grand Vintage Rosé 2015
A juicy lobster or slow-cooked game will amplify the flavors on the palate, beautifully contrasting the champagne’s mineral qualities. Season with floral flavors, pink berries or a hint of citrus to enhance its freshness.
A TALE OF SUBLIMATION
Three champagnes, a common story of the region’s classically unpredictable climate.
Grand Vintage 2016, Grand Vintage Collection 2009 and Grand Vintage Collection 2000 are marked by years of Champagne’s classically unpredictable weather of extremes: wet and dry, hot and cold, storms and calm, together they tell a tale of sublimation.
