“The more beautiful nature is, the higher the quality of the grapes, the simpler the œnology and the truer the champagnes.”
Benoit Gouez, Moët & Chandon Cellar Master

Key action

Creating 100 kilometers of ecological corridors

100 kilometers

Objectives

Connect and establish a natural balance between different ecosystems and improve conditions for local flora and fauna by protecting their natural lifecycles.

Increase the natural host environment and the mixing of animal and plant populations in order to allow them to better adapt to environmental changes and develop a high degree of resilience.

Roadmap

2022

20 kilometers

of ecological corridors have already been planted on our estates.

Done
2023 to 2027

100 kilometers

The Maison will create another 80 kilometers of ecological corridors with the support of its winegrower partners, local authorities, and farmers.

Key action

Accelerating regenerative agriculture

Objectives

Experimenting with different agroecological initiatives to reduce our environmental impact and re-think human intervention.

Controling weeds while also preserving the soil.

Stimulating soil microbiology, replenishing organic matter and restoring biodiversity.

Roadmap

2020

3 plant cover test plots.

Done
2021

6 plant cover plots

monitored (18 hectares).

Done
2022

27 plant cover plots

monitored (55 hectares).

Preserving soils

In contrast to tractors damaging the soil, sheep can access difficult areas and prevent the soil from compacting.
Their droppings are also a natural fertilizer.

Preserving local biodiversity

Sheep eco-grazing helps develop areas favorable to diverse flora and fauna. This diversity, combined with the animals’ trampling, also contributes to the proper hydraulic functioning of the soil.

Roadmap

2020

Start of the experiment

with five breeds of French sheep, as part of a conservation program.

Done
2021

86 hectares

and two departments are involved in the initiative.

Done
2022

+220 sheep breeds

involved on 100 hectares.
